Handcrafted ceramics from North Yorkshire
I'm Stuart Hillston, a potter in Bedale. I make pots inspired by the landscape of the Dales and the Yorkshire coastline.
What I make
Waves
Capturing the movement and energy of the waves at the coast, these pots have pattern etched into coloured slips.
Kobachi
Japanese food bowls. These are five-sided bowls intended to mimic flower shapes. I don't glaze them traditionally, preferring bright colours and patterns.
Agateware
Uncoloured clay, as it comes, usually two different ones mixed together before throwing to reveal the pattern. Some feature carving to exaggerate the pattern.
Crackle
Crackle pots have had sodium silicate applied during making to form a pattern in the surface of the pot.
